A Bumpy Start

I haven't been ready to embark on this journey until now. I had put up a mental and physical barrier to any suggestion of being able to change my diet and exercise. For whatever reason I can't explain, but for anyone like me where weight diet and exercise are a problem you will understand. We can't explain it. We hate the way we look and feel. But find it incredibly difficult to do something about it. Or get started and then self sabotage....sound familiar. I have no answers I have no reasons. It is a problem and it's hard to solve. You can't be ready until you're ready. One day the light bulb just goes on and you're able to do it.

For me, I managed to break through those barriers in the last week. If you have a look at my other blog called thebalanceddog you will see that I had a lot of clutter in my head, I'm surrounded by it physically at home and all these things that are bugging me didn't allow me to free up my mind to concentrate on this main task at hand. The clutter thing isn't resolved but there is a plan in place. It will take longer than I want as my hubby is the main reason for the clutter, which means it will take his involvement to fix it and therefore we will need to move at his pace not mine. His pace? snails....mine? bull at a gate 100 miles an hour.

I made two appointments with my darling friend and coach Vicki Hadfield at Baradine Bodies/Fitness for Females. The first was a motivating session...not one of these whoop and holler you can do it back slapping sessions, but she talked through a few ideas about the mental clutter I had which was taking up too much space in my head for the good stuff that was to come. The second was a stretching and movement session which allowed me to push through the stagnant stretches that I'm limited to by doing it myself. I was able to talk about how the fat bits were getting in the way of being able to physically do what I wanted, how hard it is to get down to and up off the floor. The "yucky" feeling I get when I bend at the waist now with a cesarean scar and flabby post baby belly (my son was born 8 months ago today).
It felt great to be back in her gym again. Very comfortable and comforting - Yes I find the gym comforting - Oh God! not all of them that's for sure, but at her gym it's just you and her and everything is sacred. Like revisiting an old friend.

I was ready the very next day after the second session. Which made me decide to split my blog in 2 and dedicate more time and effort to writing this one as it's my main focus with 3 goals in mind; to be accountable to myself, to diarise and in a way verbalise my progress and thoughts and hopefully if someone finds this interesting, to help someone somehow along the way. I'm going to be very open and honest and if you are reading this and need a kind word or a helping hand from someone who has won this battle before but has to do it again, I'm open to receiving messages.

I wrote above about being a bull at a gate 100 miles an hour...That's me, Miss All or Nothing. That's why extreme kick start diets are the best for me. I like the idea of meal replacement shakes etc which is why the Tony Ferguson program worked for me before. Plus I like to use fat burning supplements, not your average supermarket or chemist types but those which body builders or fitness competitors take. I then move onto a clean low carb diet, with no what I call empty calories or white foods (will explain more in another post). Dinner will be a 120gm piece of protein and non starchy vegetables. Snacks will be fruit, vege's, protein snack bars or almonds. And the absolute must... 3 LITRES OF WATER.

So I was all supercharged and jumped on Vicki's website www.fitnessforfemales.com.au to order a couple of things. I was going to buy my ol' time favourite MuscleTech branded NitroTech protein powder, but because I wanted a proper meal replacement shake rather than a protein supplement drink Vicki suggested a product I hadn't tried before but one that she said was popular, by Dr Sandra Cabot called Quick Loss, I also got my fat metabolisers by MuscleTech (one of the best brands around) called Hydroxycut. I also treated myself and for James to a Garden Greens product called Berry Splash which is a drink full of antioxidant type fruits, why not I thought. The ever generous Vix also popped in a couple of editions of Oxygen Magazine. Which I incidentally had just re-subscribed to. I made 3 training sessions with Vicki for next week....HERE WE GO!!!

So this is where another bumpy bit comes into it. I was all set to start my diet today. We had had a rough night with my baby as he has a very bad cold and cough. We actually spent almost 3 hours at the emergency room as I thought he was getting sicker. Unfortunately he has a virus which can't be treated with any medications and we just have to ride it out for the next 7-10 days (sigh). At least that's all it is which doesn't compensate for all the discomfort and interrupted sleep we're going to have. Anyhow by the time we got to bed it was close to midnight and he woke me up again at about 1.30am I had to feed him and then it was back to sleep thank God until 8am! I woke up feeling funny, sort of unwell, but just put it down to still being tired and the stress of being at the hospital. So I had my Quick Loss for breakfast, and took my Suisse Womens Ultivite. I started to work on this new blog and I got some "I've gotta go" pains, it got worse when I was in the bathroom and I started to feel sick as well.....well...20 mins later, the vomiting and diarrhea subsided, and I lay in bed, I was so cold I was literally shivering, I just couldn't warm myself up. It was so strange, I got so lethargic and wafty in the head that I just had to stay there and doze for a couple of hours. Luckily it was Saturday and James was home to look after the baby. It was 3.30pm by the time I could pull it together and get up as James wanted to go do the supermarket shopping (wasn't gunna say no to that!). So we've had a rough couple of weeks, James had a bad cold and was home sick for three days at the same time I had a migraine which wipes me out for three days as well, then Rex comes down with a viral cold and I get some sort of tummy bug.

I had a few vitawheat bisc with vegemite (not on the diet) which always seems to do the trick on a rough tummy and a stack of water. I'm starting to feel better now although the tummy's still a little tender. I am veeerryyy tired and will probably go to bed without giving the baby his 10pm feed and just wait for him to wake up. He's had so much disrupted sleep this week that he needs to get back into the habit of sleeping longer, as he's usually a champion sleeper. So as I said James went shopping and bought some not so good easy to prepare meals. It'll take me a while to re-train him as well. So tonight's dinner was frozen pre-made chicken kiev, baked chips and broccolini, not a shocker but certainly outside of the ideal at this stage.

But tomorrow is another day and I'll just keep plugging on.
